Foals with Youthmovies and dananananaykroyd @ Oxford Carling Academy
Oxford Carling Academy formely known as the Oxford Zodiac which was a top venue the downstairs of the old zodiac was amazing capacity was 250 and when bands played there were lucky if it was a sell out, how times have changed the new venues downstairs room holds a capacity of 900-1020 not the biggist venue but when you compare it to the old zodiac its a pretty big one.

Not long after Youthmovies outcome the fantastic Foals and the crowd goes fucking nuts me included the band looks so tight and focused live its fantastic to witness not long into the set comes the brilliant Cassius I end up going from at the back to right at the front and losing my brother in law in the process every song thats played tonight gets the exact same response and I have got to say this band sound so much better live than on record I know so many bands have that said but in all honesty Foals are a live band and one to be enjoyed at that. Two step, Twice stands out for me as the best track played tonight. One thing I did spot was the interaction with the crowd was very rare but then its all about the music isnt it and when its this good who can argue all the tips and bigging up of Foals is deserved because this band is only going to get bigger and I hope that there going to be around for a long time cant wait till the next time I get to see the brilliant Foals.
Foals were occupying the downstairs room on Saturday 15th March hand having heard the album and not enjoying it as much as I had expected was still looking foward to seeing them play in there hometown, I was also excited about the support acts after hearing dananananaykroyds brilliant sissy hits ep and Youthmovies stonking new album I was happy and confident that i was gonna get my moneys worth which was a whole £9 (bargain). After getting into the venue when the doors opend there was a fair lengthy wait for the first support band to appear and when it did so out came the brilliant dananananaykroyd who are 6 piece rock band from Glasgow, and the first thing you spot is that they have two drummers and every single band member has a grin from ear to ear and are clearly enjoying themselves, I was wondering how the Foals crowd would react to them but pretty much everybody was jumping, dancing and clapping along. It didnt take long for there frontman to be on the barrier getting the crowd involved. For me the highlight was when they played the awesome song The Greater Than Symbol And The Hash which is a fantastic song including smashing drums big sound guitars and screaming, singing and clap along fun.
Next up were Youthmovies an Oxford based band like the headliners and some of which were in the Edmund Fitzgerald with Yannis and the drummer of Foals. Youthmovies are great band and can play live and do hold the intrest of the crowd but they just dont have the enrgy or overall fun of the previous support saying that I would pay to see Youthmovies headline there own gig because I do Love them to bits and The Naughtiest Girl Is A Monitor sounds brilliant live and is a big highlight of the night for me this band can only keep progressing and get better and better.

New Band-Hatcham Social
Guitar bands are starting to get boring, well not boring but so many sound the same and leaves you feeling that you have heard it all before. Hatcham Social have guitars and I wouldent put them under any of the "now" bands like the courteeners or any Libertines/Oasis rip off. Hatcham Social do have however a few comparisons to indie darlings Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong with the whole 60's surfer rock genre nice sharp guitars and sung lyrics with the drums leading the way this band are playing music for themselves and have some strong opinions about rock n roll see this months artrocker. I'v been a fan of this band for a while having brought a cassette of theres from puregroove records which turnt out to be a great decision, having also realesed single so so happy making the band can make a catchy little tune that you find yourself singing without realising. The band are currently playing alot of venues around London aswell as other destenations and are supporting The Charlatans on upcoming uk tour.

New Band-Thomas Tantrum
More and more female fronted bands are appering, not a bad thing in my opinion when you consider bands like blood red shoes, be your own pet and Elle S'apelle are awesome female fronted bands. Thomas Tantrum are the next big thing in my opinion, a Miss Mega Thomas is the bands vocalist and guitarist her vocals are soft but come across very strong and powefull, the music is a mixture of frantic bursts of guitars and melodic pop rock songs. Thomas Tantrum should be a band that dont just get played on late night radio one they deserve to be played all day long. From what iv heard from friends and what iv read on the net there a top live band aswell, having supported Futureheads on there last tour this band are getting recognition and with music like this they deserve it. Listen to Thomas Tantrum!!!!
